What if:
1.You’re at the grocery store checkout counter. You have $300 worth of groceries in your cart. Turns out your account balance is $285. You’ve waited for 10 minutes to check out … and there are 5 people behind you.
Would you want your debit card to clear? If you OPT-In, it will clear; but if you don’t OPT-IN, it will not.
2.You’re out of town. Your car breaks down. You need to pay $400 to get your car back. Your debit card is the only card you have with you … but you only have $285 in your checking account.
Would you want your debit card to clear? If you OPT-In, it will clear; but if you don’t OPT-IN, it will not.
3.It’s Sunday afternoon. You need $200 from the ATM to pay cash for concert tickets that just became available. If you don’t buy them now, they go to someone else. You have $150 in your checking account.
Would you want your withdrawal approved? If you OPT-IN, it will be; but if you don’t OPT-IN, it will not.
4.You think you have $800 in your checking account. However, your direct deposit was delayed by your
employer. You have $55 instead. Your prescriptions at the drug store cost $95.
Would you want your debit card to clear? If you OPT-In, it will clear; but if you don’t OPT-IN, it will not. |
Possible Objections You Might Have:
1.“If I don’t have the money, I don’t want the transaction to clear.”
We understand. But have you ever experienced the inconvenience and embarrassment of having a transaction declined? (Consider the examples above) Do you have other overdraft protection to cover you in the event of an emergency? Have you protected yourself against errors by others (employer, Freedom, etc.)?
2.“I don’t want to pay for a service I don’t plan to use.”
Don’t blame you. And with Member Advantage, you will not. When you OPT-IN, there is never a charge unless you use the service. If you don’t overdraw, MA will never cost you a penny. But you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing it’s there if you need it. It’s like insurance that you don’t pay for unless you file a claim.
3.“I don’t think I should be charged an overdraft fee for something like a $3.00 cup of coffee.”
Regardless of the amount of the charge, being denied at a merchant is embarrassing. Depending on the setting, it can also be harmful to your reputation (What if you’re with your boss? A client? Etc.) And your account has to be overdrawn more than $5 before you are charged an overdraft fee at Freedom. We’ll never charge you a penny unless you use the service … remember, opting-in is like having insurance at no cost until you use it. |
